What to do with Windows Installer errors ?

If you are like most computer users who rely on Windows as your operating system, you have probably experienced Windows installer errors when trying to install a version of Windows. These errors can be frustrating, and at times difficult to figure out why they are appearing. What is Windows Installer? Windows installer is a configuration service and installation that reduces the cost of owning the program. It enables its customers to be able to provide better corporate services through a standard format for management.

Windows installer allows for the efficient use, installation and configuration of products and applications on your computer. It can provide you with new capabilities and be able to advertise the features without having to install certain products. Unfortunately, like with any program, there are Windows Installer errors that can occur.  Windows installer errors have error codes of 1000 or higher. They are numbered between 1000-1999.  Each number represents a different kind of Windows Installer error that is occurring. For instance, the 1101 code means that it could not open the file stream or is a system error. The 1305 code means that there was problem writing from the file.
Depending on the Windows Installer error code that you are experiencing, there are different calls to actions that you can take to fix the errors and get back to business.

Most of the errors that occur in Windows installer are due to the registry of the Windows Installer or lack of the registry maintenance that should be done to prevent these errors from occurring. You should always perform Windows registry maintenance clean up on a regular basis to help prevent the registry errors from occurring.
To perform a manual registration, you should follow the steps below:

  • Open windows explorer by right-clicking on the start button and choosing explore, then locate the windows system folder.
  • Locate the msiexec.exe file in the folder and note the path to get to it.
  • Click on the start button and then select run.
  • Type the “<path>\msiexec.exe”/REGSERVER.
  • Press Enter

There are other causes or instances that can cause your computer to continue to have errors occur, and some different viruses infect your computer and cause the Windows Installer to launch every time the web browser is opened. There are other solutions that you can also use to help rid your computer of Windows Installer errors that include:

  • Reboot your computer in safe mode – restart your computer and press the F8 key before the splash screen shows:
  • From the command prompt enter:
    REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control|SafeBoot\Minimal
    \MSIServer”/VE/TREG_SZ/F/D”Service” net start msiserver
  • Press Enter

These should help you correct the Windows Installer errors that are occurring on your computer.  There are also sources and references available on the Windows website to help you if you need help figuring out what the different sort of error messages mean and what method you should use to try to fix them.
