psapi.dll is the process status helper, which is developed by Microsoft.

According to Micrsoft documentation, there should only be one copy of psapi.dll file in your computer. It should be located at c:\windows\system32 folder. If you find your psapi.dll file is not under this folder, it may indicate that your computer was infected by some virus.

One common error messages related to psapi.dll is “psapi.dll could not be found” or “file could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL”. The reason is because there is another psapi.dll is on your computer. In order to fix psapi.dll errors, you can try this:

  1. Search all files on your PC and find all psapi.dll instances.
  2. Rename or delete the other instances of psapi.dll that are not located under c:\windows\system32 folder. (Notice, don’t remove the psapi.dll under c:\windows\system32 folder).
  3. Reboot Windows Operating system, and the psapi related errors should be gone.
